Video: Senator Arlen Specter Switches to Democrats from Republicans

After 29 years in the US Senate, Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter has crossed the aisle to join the Democrats. Unsurprisingly right-wing commentators --- who long distrusted Specter as too "liberal" --- have reacted with fury (my favourite so far is "Arlen Specter, Traitor", followed by Rush Limbaugh's demand that Specter take John McCain with him).

The political consequences are far more significant: Specter's move final will give the Democrats the "filibuster-proof" 60 seats in the 100-member Senate if last November's Minnesota election is resolved in favour of Al Franken. Even though Specter was facing a difficult primary challenge next year from another Republican, and thus may struggle to hold his seat, this is an immediate symbolic and short-term political boost for the Obama Administration.

Enduring America, your #5 site for Republican Teabagging Parties, thinks it can now be proclaimed loud and proud:

Teabagging is here to stay.

Even a few weeks ago, this might have been surprising. For most people, Teabagging is a new and dramatic pastime. Yesterday it might have been far easier to take the safe road, like watching TV --- especially if The Price is Right is on --- or knitting.

Thousands, however, took the leap of the faithful and Tea-bagged in Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and even Batesville, Arkansas, a newcomer to the Tea-bagging phenomenon.

US Politics: Republican Teabagging Revolution Begins

Latest Post: Tea Parties, Violence, and Politics (And, Yes, This is a Serious Post)

This week activists in the Republican Party and Fox News, bouncing back from months of defeat, will unleash a potent weapon against the economic liberalism of President Obama.

"Teabagging."

Preparing for Tea Parties on 15 April, the deadline for filing US tax returns, the new revolutionaries have sent hundreds, maybe thousands, of teabags to members of Congress. They are promising to "Teabag Obama" and "Teabag Liberal Democrats". Even John McCain, whose views are considered suspect by many activists, may be teabagged.
