Hossein Derakhshan Arrest Confirmed

The International Herald Tribune has a short AP piece today which quotes the Iranian government confirming what we already knew- blogger Hossein Derakhsan has been arrested:
Iran confirmed on Tuesday that a well-known Iranian-Canadian blogger, who had made trips to Israel, was in detention.

Judiciary spokesman Ali Reza Jamshidi told reporters that Hossein Derakhshan was detained under order from the revolutionary court.

Update from Iran: Hossein Derakhshan Arrest Confirmed

Last month Enduring America reported on the detention of Hossein Derakhshan, the well-known Iranian-Canadian blogger, and the political complexities surrounding the case.

A reader points us to the Toronto Globe and Mail, which has information from Derakhshan's friend and family confirming the arrest on 1 November. Officials of Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade say that, despite their enquiries, Tehran is still not confirming the detention or arrest.

Iran: A Nation Of Bloggers

This short video takes as its jumping off point the claim that Iran is the "third largest country of bloggers." Blogging, it argues, is a means for Iran's young people to evade state control- "a revolution within the Revolution":
