Iran: EA's Coverage of 25 Bahman --- Will There Be Marches?

Iran's opposition --- from figures such as Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi to political parties to student groups to labour organisations --- has called for rallies across the country on Monday. Ostensibly, these are in support of the Tunisian and Egyptian uprisings; however, the marches are also to demonstrate the "Green Wave", which arose first to challenge the claimed election of President Ahmadinejad in June 2009 and then to demand rights and justice, has not been quelled by the Iranian regime.

EA has been LiveBlogging every day of the post-election crisis since 13 June 2009, and we would not miss one. James Miller of Dissected News and I will be on hand from 0600 GMT.

If the rallies materialise, we will also have snap analyses, photos, and video, courtesy of EA correspondents in Britain, Europe, the US, and Iran as well as the best sources from old and new media. And we will be partnered with Dave Siavashi of Iran News Now and Josh Shahryar, who will be LiveBlogging for Tehran Bureau.

New to all of this? Have a read of James Miller's "Iran 101".

The Latest from Iran (13 February): Waiting for Tomorrow

"I'm Going with Mom & Dad. Join Us"2210 GMT: Isolating Mousavi and Karroubi. Ardeshir Amir-Arjomand, a senior advisor to Mir Hossein Mousavi, has said that the phone lines of Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi have been cut.

The cutting of Karroubi's communications had been related, along with his effective house arrest, at the end of last night, but this is the first report of an attempt to cut off Mousavi.

2040 GMT: 25 Bahman. The Mothers of Mourning, known for their weekly gatherings in Laleh Park in Tehran to remember the dead and detained of the post-election conflict, have issued a statement of support for Monday's rally.

Journalist Isa Saharkhiz, detained since July 2009, has also congratulated those challening Iranian dictators.

2240 GMT: Claimed video of "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great) from the rooftops tonight:

2225 GMT: 25 Bahman. An indication in Fars that the Minister of Interior will reject the request by Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi for a permit for Monday's rally --- Mehdi Alikhani-Sadr, deputy director of the Interior Ministry's political bureau, said, "These people are fully aware of the illegality of their demand and they know they will not receive a permit for staging a riot."

The Latest from Iran (7 February): Anticipating 25 Bahman

1800 GMT: No Nerves Here. Both Mohammad Javad Larijani, the head of the human rights section of Iran's judiciary, and Gholam-Hossein Elham of the Guardian Council have spoken loudly about the respect for authority in the country.

Javad Larijani said democracy lovers should kiss the Supreme Leader's hands for saving the country from a "putsch": Ayatollah Khamenei is the "anchor of democracy".

Elham asserted that whoever opposes the Supreme Leader "will be destroyed". Even if Ayatollah Khamenei got more power, this does not smell of dictatorship.

He added a warning for Parliament: if the Guardian Council says something is illegal, Majlis must obey and cannot change laws.
