Introducing a New EA WorldView

Later this morning, we will launch a new EA WorldView --- a new logo and a new website which will be reader-friendly, with quick and easy-to-navigate access to our coverage and analysis.

Much of the new EAWV will be familiar. We will have the latest news and interpretations from Syria, Iran, and the Middle East, including the manoevres of those inside and outside the region from Washington to London to Moscow. We will feature Animated Guides and Video Analyses. We will host a vibrant Comments section, bringing in ideas and news from our readers.

At the same time, we will have new features and possibilities. In time, we will expand coverage to other key areas. As well as immediate analysis, we will offer in-depth explanations and forecasts. EA Solutions will provide access to our staff, on a group and a 1-to-1 basis.

Our thanks to all of you for your support over the last 4 1/2 years. We look forward to welcoming you to our new home, as well as seeing you on Twitter.

A Message to Readers from James Miller

James Miller writes to EA readers:

It has been my honor to write for EA Worldview for the last 2 1/2 years. Now, however, I am leaving EA to pursue new projects.

This is a bittersweet moment for me. I am excited about the new directions in which my life is headed, and I anticipate wonderful things for EA; at the same time I will miss a place that has been my "home".

One of the opportunities I am pursuing is The Public Eye Journalism Project in conjunction with Professor Matt Sienkiewicz of Boston College. Still in beta, PEJ is dedicated to using open-sources to investigate international events of legal, political and historical importance.

Our first case is the examination of the double bombing on January 15th that left 80 students dead at Aleppo University in Syria.

I wish Scott Lucas, the writers and staff at EA, and all of the readers --- many of whom I have come to know well --- all the best.

EA on the Road: Talking US Elections in The Netherlands

Following Wednesday's seminar at the Roosevelt Study Center in Middleburg on the US Elections and What Happens Next, I am on a weekend break before EA's Election Day coverage on 6 November.

Updates to Live Coverage will be limited this weekend until I return on Sunday afternoon.  Please enjoy new features, including this morning's video "endorsement" of Mitt Romney and the situation in southern Yemen, and we thank readers as always for bringing in news and ideas.

Our 1st EA Video Analysis: The Sound, Fury, and Insignificance of Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

As we prepare to launch a new website, EA introduces a new venture, the Video Analysis of the "Window on the World".

We hope through 5-minute analyses of latest events to go behind the headlines --- and to bring in overlooked news --- for an understanding of the important political, economic, and social developments and trends. The intial videos will feature EA staff in straightforward presentations to camera, but we hope to add to the "Window" through footage and studio discussions as EA expands.

In the intial analysis, Scott Lucas previews the sound and fury of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in his speech at the United Nations today, predicting that it will all end in insignificance.

EA on the Road: Summer Break in the US South

I'm off to Georgia in the American South on a 10-day break, seeing family and enjoying baseball and stock-car racing. While I'm away, James Miller and John Horne will be keeping watch at EA.

I will be checking in each morning --- early afternoon in Britain, Europe, and the Middle East and Iran --- but Live Coverage will be limited at times. So I thank readers in advance for bringing in latest news and ideas through our Comments section. To ensure your comment shows up immediately, be sure to sign up with the Disqus system.

Best wishes to all and I'll see you from the Heart of Dixie.

EA on the Road: Community Day at the University of Birmingham

EA WorldView will be "going home" to where this all began 3 1/2 years ago, appearing at the University of Birmingham's Community Day, showing off the website and talking to people about our news coverage and plans for the future.

If you are nearby, stop by the exhibition and say hello, as well as enjoying the other events and activities ---- from the Fun Fair to the Volcanic Eruption to Anatomy Body Painting.

The Community Day will be across campus from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. We'll see you there!

Expanding EA's Worldview --- How You Can Help

Only three years ago, EA WorldView was a blog called “Enduring America”, dedicated to providing thoughtful posts on US foreign policy and what "America" means in the world of the 21st century.

Now, after the experience of covering the Gaza War of 2008/9, the post-election protests in Iran, and the uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa, we think EA Worldview has grown up to become far more.

We are now dedicated to providing fast-paced, incisive updates on developing events with analysis on what they mean --- in Iran, across the Middle East and North Africa, and in other areas of global concern. Our live reporting typically runs for 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, and during major events the team strives for 24-hour coverage.

EA WorldView's commentary and analysis still considers America, but it does so alongside Iran, Syria, Bahrain, Turkey, Egypt, Yemen, Libya, Israel, Palestine, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, with the hope of more to come.

EA WorldView is still run by a very small team on a voluntary basis, with some staff working full-time.
