2105 GMT: Egypt. Clashes broke out in Cairo today during a funeral march for activist Mohamed El-Shifae, with police firing tear gas.

El-Shifae was killed on 29 January after participating in protests. His family spent a month searching for him before they found his body in a morgue; officials had previously denied that the activist was there.

1905 GMT: Bahrain. Thousands of people march in the funeral for Mahmood AlJazeeri, killed last month by police (see 0908 GMT), today:

An EA correspondent in Bahrain adds:

The crowd shouted, "Down with [King] Hamad", "Hamad, you are responsible", and "We demand the head of Hamad".

The Ministry of Interior did not block any roads leading to Nabeeh Saleh but they have deployed hundreds of officers all around the island and its only entrance.

1545 GMT: Egypt. One person has been shot in the head and police officers stabbed during ongoing clashes in Port Said near the Security Directorate.

Fighting, which has flared since protests in late January amid which almost 40 people were killed, resumed when three Central Security Forces vehicles fired teargas at demonstrators, who responded by throwing stones.

1315 GMT: Bahrain. The body of Mahmood AlJazeeri, released after 12 days by authorities (see 0908 GMT), being taken for burial:

1305 GMT: Egypt. A court in Cairo has sentenced First Lieutenant Mahmoud El-Shinnawy –-- the "Eye Sniper" --– to three years in prison for deliberately shooting at protesters' faces during protests in November 2011.

El-Shinnawy was tried for attempted murder for targeting the eyes of five protesters with birdshot.

About 40 people were killed in the Mohamed Mahmoud area of Cairo when police tried to clear protesters from in front of the Ministry of Interior.

0947 GMT: Egypt. Al Jazeera English reports on growing frustration in rural areas with the Muslim Brotherhood, the leading movement in the Morsi Government and Parliament, because of political and economic issues:

0923 GMT: Palestine. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency has cancelled the third Gaza Marathon, scheduled for 10 April, because Gazan authorities insisted that no women should participate.

0908 GMT: Bahrain. After 12 days, officials have finally released the body of Mahmood AlJazeeri to his family.

AlJazeeri was wounded when he was hit in the head by a tear gas canister fired by police, during protests on the second anniversary of Bahrain's mass demonstrations. He died a week later.

The authorities had refused to give up the body because AlJazeeri's family want to bury him in AlDaih, near the Pearl Roundabout site that was the centre of the pro-democracy rallies. The Ministry of Interior feared that mourners at the burial would try to reach the Roundabout, closed to the public since it was overrun by security forces in March 2011.

AlJazeeri's brother is detained and is not being allowed to attend the burial.
