Belarus Updates: Threat of Prosecution Continues for Candidates and Activists

1905 GMT: Political analyst Svetlana Naumova of the Speak Truth campaign has been interrogated by state security service KGB about alleged plans to overthrow the government.

1900 GMT: The lawyer for opposition candidate Vladimir Neklyaev has still not seen her client, who was taken from a hospital bed on Sunday --- having been beaten unconscious by police --- and detain. Neklyaev's wife Olga Neklyaeva says she does not know if he is alive.

1740 GMT: Picture of Day. A detained activist gets out a V sign despite the bars outside his window:

0900 GMT: The Belarussian authorities continue to threaten 19 opposition candidates and activists with up to 15 years in prison for "organising riots" or "hooliganism".

The lawyer for presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov and the campaign chief of candidate Vitaly Rymashevsky, Paval Sevyarynets, has filed an application with the District Court in Minsk for the release of his clients on their own recognizance.

Attorney Pavel Sapelka said he last saw Sannikov on Monday and Sevyarnets on Tuesday. The lawyer for another opposition candidate, Vladimir Neklyaev, says she has been unable to see her client.

Seven of the nine opposition candidates were arrested on Sunday. Two were later released.

Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Surikov says he will press for the release of 11 Russian citizens who have been sentenced to between 10 and 15 days in jail.

A claim is circulating that law-enforcement agencies were given access to the mobile phone numbers of people in the area of Sunday's demonstrations in front of government buildings. Any phone owner who has been mentioned in connection with a political case has been put on a "blacklist" by the KGB, the state security service.

It is also alleged that KGB representatives have asked state-controlled firms in Minsk and asked them for lists of employees who failed to appear at work on Monday.
