EA on the Road: Talking Iran and US-Iran Relations

US IRAN FLAGSI will be travelling from London to Durham University for a conference today on Iran and US-Iran Relations at the Centre for Iranian Studies.

I will be posting from the road, including a follow-up analysis to yesterday's news of meetings between clerics and Hashemi Rafsanjani on a National Unity Plan, but there will be a "slimmed-down" look to EA.

Other staff are in the EA shop so do keep comments (which were invaluable to me on the Rafsanjani piece) and ideas coming in.

What happened to the caption competition? I was so excited to see the results.

Was it going to be:
I washed the SL arse and got carpel tunnel syndrome or was it going to be: I see the world so clearly .....

Anyways in light of the heavy news some light humur was much appreciated.

wimv- sorry I know we let the caption contest slip- yesterday got very busy for everyone (outside of EA). But rest assured it's not forgotten :) I'll drop Scott an email and see what he thinks about deciding a winner.

Bill,

Thanks, I posted this last night. I have played it over and over but I still cannot tell if the second person on that bike ran to safety or the vehicle ran over him and his bike. What do you see?

Megan,

If you look carefully they both got away. The good sign is they were running but we won't know if they were trully injured because you would be amazed what a body in shock can do. Hopefully we won't see more of these but just in case my friends mom is here from Iran and I bought her a Kodak mobile phone/movie recorder. It has great resolution but I wonder if she will get it through customs when she gets back. While she is 70 she used to work for the Shah.

Thx
Bill

The Economist has an excellent article about the situation in Iran

Bill,

Thanks. I saw a second man running but when the camera goes back to the bike I think there is a person struggling to move from under the crushed bike. I just wish the person who was recording the video had said more about the two men on that bike. These images are very tough to take.

I think your Mom’s friend can use a taser gun more than a camera phone. I want to see these SOBs hurting or running for their lives. I want to see them getting a dose of their own medicine.

Megan,

Her mom said a gun would have been better!!! How funny Iranian women are--god I would hate to ever be on their bad side! On the video if you look only two people were on the bike and no else was in front of truck. I might have missed something but deduction says two got hit and two ran away. I will view it again but I think you might be taking the moving scooter for a person. The video is not that good so who really knows.

Thx
bill
