A Special Christmas Gift: Palin in 2020

I hasten to add that the gift does not come from Enduring America but from America's foremost columnist of sense and sensibility, Ms Anne Coulter:

Sarah Palin wins HUMAN EVENTS’ prestigious “Conservative of the Year” Award for 2008 for her genius at annoying all the right people. The last woman to get liberals this hot under the collar would have been … let's see now … oh, yeah: Me!

Exalting "our beauteous Sarah", our beauteous Ann spends 2000+ words saying nothing about Palin on the economy, international affairs, social issues, or even the latest Jolie-Aniston confrontation. Instead, Palin's qualifications come via the iniquities of the "left-wing" press: "discombobulated and angry", filled with "anti-religious hysteria", and "decid[ing] that a woman with children could not handle the stress of higher office".

OK, it's Ann Coulter, who could only exist as a "Legal Affairs Correspondent" or any other kind of Correspondent in the mythical polarised US of common-sense Americans fending off the evil liberals ruining the country. Still, it's quite amusing to see how Ann blurts one moment, "Who cares if Palin was qualified to be President?", and then in the next explains how Beauteous Sarah will assume that office.

She will do so by "becoming older and wiser", "being a good governor, tending to her children so none of them turn out like Ron Reagan Jr., and reading everything Phyllis Schlafly, Thomas Sowell, [and] Ronald Reagan have ever written:

Democrats may have a fleet of women politicians, but they don’t have a deep bench of attractive ones.

Thanks, Ann, for the Greatest Gift of All. Reading this supposed formula for Republican success, I'll sleep a little sounder tonight thinking that the GOP implosion 0f 2008 --- with all its humourous fallout --- may be with us for just a while longer.

Maybe even until 2020.

Alaska Update: Sarah Palin, the Wasilla Bible Church, Gay Rights, and a Fire

This just in from our Alaska Bureau, reporting from Wasilla:

The investigation into the fire that nearly destroyed the Wasilla Bible Church, the religious home of former Vice-Presidential candidate and evangelical-right favorite Sarah Palin, widened this week when the Central Mat-Su Fire Department and the Alaska State Fire Marshals Office requested assistance from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. The onsite investigation revealed that an accelerant had been used in multiple locations to spread the fire. No injuries were reported, though the structure sustained more than $1 million of damage.

In September the church held a Focus on the Family's ‘Love Won Out’ conference, the aim of which is to "to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality". Because of this, some on the right are labelling the fire a "hate crime" and an "arson and attempted murder...perpetrated by advocates of homosexual marriage". These allegations were repeated by Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren in an interview with Palin, who then apologized to the congregation if her candidacy brought "undeserved negative attention’ to the church".

The charges come at an especially delicate moment for President-elect Obama, who faces criticism from gay rights advocates because he picked Rick Warren to give the inauguration invocation. Warren is the superchurch pastor who  put forward California's Proposition 8, which restricted the definition of marriage to a union between a man and a woman.

It remains to be seen whether or not Wasilla will become a hotbed of political activism or the Ground Zero of a yet unidentified gay anarchist collective, but we will keep you posted.

Comment of the Day: Degenerate Secular Liberal Jihadist Terrorism in Alaska

Gerald Warner in The Daily Telegraph:

If - and it is still a big if - arson was committed by militant homosexuals or liberals simply driven by hatred of Palin, then that is a phenomenon that should greatly concern the American public. Anti-Christian jihadism fuelled by secularism is as unacceptable as that driven by militant Islam. If Wasilla Church was burned by arsonists making an ideological point, that is terrorism....

If what is suspected turns out to be true, the burning of Wasilla Bible Church is a metaphor for the onslaught against Christianity that aggressive secularism has mounted in Europe and which, under the influence of the morally degenerate Democrat Party, is now invading the United States. This may be a significant warning to complacent Christians.
