The Saviour of the Republican Party: Truck Nutz

Republican activists, trying to rebuild after the elections, have launched a website called Rebuild the Party to solicit ideas.

Early returns, however, have been a bit unexpected. The top two proposals are to link up with libertarian activists: "Reach Out to Ron Paul and the Campaign for Freedom" and "Make Room for Libertarians". The libertarian influence --- and possibly hijacking of the poll --- is also evident in "Abolish the Federal Reserve System" and "Step Away from the Drug War", and there are calls for "Fair Tax Reform".

At Number Four, however, is the idea that may bring the Party back in Congress and into the White House: "Truck Nutz for All". I am told that Truck Nutz is a metal ornament that you can hang off the trailer hitch of your pick-up truck. While I'm not sure how I could attach this to the rusting rear bumper of my Renault Laguna, it does seem to be a political initiative with a lot of potential.

(Sad update: Since the Internet chattering classes picked up on "Truck Nutz for All", it has been pulled --- quite undemocratically or un-Republicanly --- from the Rebuild the Party website.)

Palin 2012? Here's a Clue....

My relatives tell me of an interesting political development in Georgia (the American one, not the Caucacus one).

Because Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss failed to get 50 percent of the vote on Election Night, he has to fight Democrat Jim Martin in a runoff on 2 December. Since the swing of a Senate seat to the Democrats could be quite signficant, especially with the outcome in Minnesota up in the air, national politicians are doing some serious campaignin' for the candidates.

John McCain is due in Marietta, Georgia, today for a rally. Republican organisers also wanted Sarah Palin to journey to the Peach State, but she's turned them down. Apparently, she's "too busy".

Really? Sister Sarah certainly wasn't too busy for a series of nationally-televised interviews this week to give her definitive reading on the McCain campaign, and I bet she won't be passing on a high-profile appearance at the Republican Governors' Conference this weekend.

Fancy a good in-fight? Watch this space....

Same-Sex Marriage: Six Minutes From (and About) The Heart

In the excitement over the Obama victory in the United States, there was a significant setback at the polls. Voters passed a Constitutional amendment, ""Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."

MSNBC's Keith Olbermann reacted with a moving plea which I hope may be seen by voters --- and anyone else --- who ever have the chance or desire to consider this issue:

"This isn't about yelling. This isn't about politics. This is about the human heart."

Niggles About Obama: Canuckistan Responds

Canuckistan responds to my earlier post on Senator Patrick Leahy's speech:

Aren't you being a little tough on Patrick Leahy? Is it surprising that he would be reluctant to speak for the Obama Administration before it has constituted itself and taken office, especially since he is not part of that administration and the last thing he would want to be is the cause of newspaper headlines back in the US?

The Guantanamo comment does seem surprising given the constant stream of news stories about plans underway to shut it down, a position that John McCain also advocated. That may be caution on the part of Leahy, but it may also reflect the realization that it will not be such an easy matter to shut down the camp because of what to do with the inmates. What happens to Khaled Sheikh Mohammad? Does he go on trial in a regular court and, if so, what do you do with the evidence obtained through waterboarding and the long time he spent in custody without charge? And what do you do with those are innocent but whose countries won't take them back (or the countries that will take them back but will torture them on return)?

The Bush Administration has left a counter-terrorist toxic waste dump for its successors to clean up.

Homeland Security: Obama = Nazi/Communist/Socialist Alert

Today's Vigilant Citizen Award has to go to Republican Congressman Paul Broun of Georgia.

That's because Broun has uncovered Obama's plot to impose an American Gestapo upon us. He tipped off the Associated Press on Monday, "It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force."

In July Obama gave a speech in which he called for an expanded civilian service corps. In addition to expanding the US foreign and diplomatic service and doubliing the Peace Corps, he proposed a civilian national security force to support the US military. Now to you and me, that might sound a homeland security measure alongside the police and National Guard, but Broun has the real story.

"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did. When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."

In addition to the historical breakthrough of establishing that 1930s Germany National Socialists were exactly the same as 1930s Soviet Communists (that later war between them must have been a fluke), Broun has called the President-elect to account: "We may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

And, in an essential update of the "if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" rule, Broun can reveal that, as the civilian security corps hauls us in for enhanced interrogation, Obama's gun control laws will take our weapons away from us.

"We can't be lulled into complacency," Broun warned. "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."

Congressman Broun, I thank you. And to you, Enduring America readers, I say: Be vigilant. Be very vigilant.
